Dr. Ron Tabler is an independent consultant in snow and wind engineering, with offices near Boulder, Colorado, and an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wyoming.

He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Colorado State University, and spent 25 years studying blowing snow as a research hydrologist with the U.S. Forest Service in Wyoming prior to starting private practice in 1985.

Ron's research has been the subject of more than 100 technical papers, including the 2003 publication “Controlling Blowing and Drifting Snow with Snow Fences and Road Design,” prepared for the Transportation Research Board.

As recipient of the Japanese Government's Science and Technology Award for Foreign Specialists, he worked at the Civil Engineering Research Institute in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 1980-81.

Other awards include the D. Grant Mickle Award of the Transportation Research Board, and the USDA Superior Service Honor Award.

In addition to designing mitigation measures for blowing snow, his consulting work includes wind fences to protect ski lifts and railroads, measures to control blowing sand and fugitive dust, facility layout and design to minimize wind and blowing snow problems, weather information systems, comprehensive safety improvement studies, and training courses in these subjects.
